#FIRSTLikeAGirl is a movement started by a USA-based FIRST Robotics Competition team. It aims to fight against stereotypes and encourage girls to take part in FIRST and STEAM. In 2019 we became the first and only #FIRSTLikeAGirl Turkiye Ambassador in this aspect. As the team RS #5993, we are so honoured to be a representative of this spirit in our country. Since 2019, we have been a part of this movement in order to inspire women and help them overcome the obstacles and prevent any kind of gender-based discrimination they face in the field of being a part of STEM.
We remain active through the conferences and seminars we organize in order to raise awareness in our society. Also in the FIRST- based events that we attend annually We use the opportunity to spread the message of FIRSTLikeAGirl. In line with this, we print special pins that have the FIRSTLikeAGirl logo on them and we distribute them to over 40 FRC teams. Also, we prepare a FIRSTLikeAGirl-themed frame and take plenty of photos with the other teams. These photos are being shared on our and other teams' social media accounts. We always make an incredible effort to spread the spirit of FIRSTLikeAGirl within the event and through social media.
We have continued to run the #FIRSTLikeAGirl ambassy even more actively in the past few years especially by using our social media actively. We have had an Instagram account dedicated to #FIRSTLikeAGirl and make sure to use social media as an effective tool for the purpose of raising awareness regarding women in FIRST and STEM for the past few years. We used our #FIRSTLikeAGirlTr Instagram account even more actively in order to raise awareness with the special digital magazines which we created for inspiring women in the aspect of being a part of STEAM.
Every year, as IRS #5993, we organize interviews and seminars to encourage and remind women about their strengths and value. In these events, we interview experts in their fields to prove that women can be successful in every aspect they want, organized with the cooperation of Yeditepe University. Thanks to these, we proof that girls and women are able to do any job they are willing to do.
We aim to show the power of girls and women to the world and encourage them to follow their dreams. In line with these, we prepare booklets about women's achievements including the number of women who were able to go to school and get a proper education, and are full of their successful stories. We distribute these booklets during the competitions and various events that we involve in order to raise awareness among the teams and by keeping a #FIRSTLikeAGirl banner with us, we aim to make everyone who sees this banner aware of the #FIRSTLikeAGirl community and spread the power of girls and women more. As IRS #5993, we strongly believe that encouraging girls and women in the aspect of being a part of FIRST and STEAM will be highly beneficial for the world.
In addition, we also use our social media accounts actively in order to spread the message of #FIRSTLikeAGirl. We are posting experiences of inspiring women that have lived throughout history in a social media magazine that we created so that we can arise with their achievements. As a result, we support the FIRSTLikeAGirl community in each of the projects and the events we participate in and we continue to spread gender equality day by day.
We have done some projects in order to spread the society of FIRSTLikeAGirl. We strongly believe that encouraging women in the aspect of being a part of FIRST and STEAM will be hardly beneficial for all the world. Accordingly, we always have a sign of FIRSTLikeAGirl in the regionals we join, in order to draw their attention to the community. We use our social media accounts actively in order to spread the message of FIRSTLikeAGirl. We shared experiences of inspiring women that have lived throughout history through a social media magazine that we created.
